Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes Manchester City’s poor recent form could be no more than a minor “blip.”
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (quotes via ManchesterCity.news), Warnock pointed out that the Cityzens usually come on strong during the second half of the campaign and he sees no reason to start doubting Pep Guardiola’s side now:
“At some point during the season, Man City will hit top form and we will be looking back thinking, ‘Do you remember when City had that little blip’?”
“They will bounce back. That is what champions do. They will be stronger and it will be no surprise.”
City can string consecutive wins together
One of the big reasons why Guardiola’s men have won the Premier League six times in the last seven years is due to their consistency when it matters most.
While they may not always look invincible, they are able to put together a run of victories at a key moment of the campaign which manages to move them clear of their rivals. It’s been a hallmark of their recent title triumphs.
Of course, there is no guarantee it will happen this season, but the fact that it has been a regular occurrence in recent years has led to Warnock feeling confident that City’s last three results are a mere blip, rather than a sign of something more serious.
Injuries could still be a factor
Although the Cityzens have had to contend with key players being sidelined in past seasons, the absence of Rodri could be problematic.
There is no doubt that the Premier League champions have become very reliant on the Spanish international, especially over the last couple of years.
Up until recently, Rodri’s absence hasn’t been felt that much but it will be interesting to see if City can get back on track even with a vital component missing.
