Julen Lopetegui’s time at West Ham United could well be coming to an end it seems.
West Ham appointed Julen Lopetegui as our new head coach officially on July 1st, but things haven’t quite gone to plan since then.
The Hammers head coach has experienced real problems at the London Stadium so far, and it has been claimed that a poor performance against Everton could be the final straw.
Even if we beat the Toffees, the Hammers face tough games against Newcastle and Arsenal immediately after the international break.
We could easily lose those games, and then we’ll be back right where we started.
In my opinion, Lopetegui should be sacked now, or at the very least after the Toffees game, regardless of the result.
He is a manager without a clue right now, and things will only get worse if he stays.
According to one report, the West Ham owners could be thinking along those lines as well.
Exceptional manager could replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham
It seems to me like the Spaniard is a dead man walking right now.
Even if we beat Everton, you just know there will be another game within the next month that he has to win to save his job.
And the Hammers owners are seemingly lining up a potential replacement for him already.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Graham Potter could replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham during the international break.
He was actually tipped to replace the Spaniard by talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent a couple of days ago.
Pep Guardiola described Potter as one of the best managers in the Premier League and ‘beyond exceptional’ back in 2022 (Man City’s official website).
He is a well-renowned for implementing some of the best and most attractive football the Premier League has seen in recent years.
The 49-year-old is a ‘trust the process’ manager. It takes time for his ideas and philosophies to bed in but when they do, the football really is very pleasing on the eye.
His first three seasons with Brighton saw the Seagulls finish in 15th, 16th and the 9th place in the Premier League table.
Then, he got Brighton up to fourth in the table after six games before he left to join Chelsea. So those numbers are all evidence of a long process working out in the end.
Would the Hammers fans be prepared to give him time if it was clear to see what he was trying to do with the team?
I think so. The the main problem with Lopetegui now is that the Spaniard is bereft of ideas and he lacks any kind if clear vision.
I would love Graham Potter at West Ham – I think he’d be perfect for us and a huge upgrade on Julen Lopetegui.
