Julen Lopetegui has clearly not impressed David Sullivan one little bit so far.
In fact, the West Ham boss is lucky that he hasn’t already been handed his P-45 by the Hammers co-owner as far as I’m concerned.
West Ham have been woeful this season under Julen Lopetegui, and there were rumours that David Sullivan was ready to pull the trigger on the Spaniard’s future.
However, that has since been denied by club insiders, although Sullivan has apparently insisted that results MUST improve, and fast.
With games against Newcastle and Arsenal to come immediately after the two-week international break, things could be set to get a lot worse for the Hammers before they get better.
The annoying thing is it really didn’t have to be this way.
One thing about Julen Lopetegui that David Sullivan doesn’t like
There is an ominous feeling in the air in East London right now.
Lopetegui’s days are numbered as far as I’m concerned, and he will really struggle to turn things around now.
There is one thing about Lopetegui’s reign so far that Sullivan really hasn’t been happy about.
According to a report from The Times, Sullivan is particularly concerned about Lopetegui’s inability to successfully integrate his new signings.
Now, in my opinion, Lopetegui got it all wrong from the start of the Premier League season.
Rather than throw his new signings like Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug straight into action, he chose to slowly ease them into the team.
That rarely works as far as I’m concerned.
What better time to start a new signing than when they’re high on confidence, having made a big money move to a brand new club?
This is especially true for attacking players. They thrive on stats, and giving them the odd 10 or 20 minutes here and there makes it so hard for them to get off the mark with goals and assists.
Summerville is a prime example with this. He’s only really getting a proper chance now because Mohammed Kudus is out through suspension.
And Fullkrug is already behind the eight ball because of his limited action at the beginning of his Hammers career and then the injury he sustained whilst on international duty.
Julen Lopetegui has made many mistakes during his short time in charge of West Ham, but the way he has handled the majority of his new signings is right at the top of the list in my opinion.
