Pep has lost four in a row, we’ve lost four in a row and Arsenal haven’t won in three and if we ignore the League Cup, it’s four. But Liverpool are just taking every week as if it was their first and winning.
And because of this many pundits have Liverpool nailed on to win the League because of this little run with 27 games (81 points) still to play. But there are also pundits, I heard it myself last night, suggesting Ruud van Nistelrooy should be a consideration for any side in the Premier League looking for a new manager, because of the interim job he just did at Manchester United.
The British press really are on a different planet. Fortunately the owners are not as simple and it’s why the likes of Frank Lampard will never be given a job in the Premier League again and why Steven Gerrard had to go where he went.
And you know, I think there are British managers worthy of the bigger jobs and if the British press supported them in the same way they support former top flight players, maybe we’d be seeing more success with British managers. I’m saying maybe. And I don’t just mean overnight, but if they got the same support, maybe.
And regarding Ruud, I’ll go so far to say that if it wasn’t Ruud and instead me, I’d have won all four. He had the easiest job in the world and only won three out of four. Some might say he failed, but not the British media. That said, I can’t get stuck on Manchester United, so I should go back to the post.
And I think there is something in us, Manchester City and Arsenal all having a little bump at the same time. But why not Liverpool? We’ve all had a lot of games but Liverpool are flying, so what’s the difference?
The obvious is that they have a new manager. So are Liverpool not suffering because they’re still in the new manager bounce period with Arne Slot? Could it be that simple and it’s just a matter of time? I think it’s about time, I’m not sure it’s just because he is new. But you know someone really wise did once say that if you don’t know the answer and there are lots of explanations, often the most simple and obvious is the correct one.
We’ll see in time and I don’t think this is stupid to write, but I still can’t see past Manchester City this season. Or I can, but it means them getting relegated because of all these charges. What ever happened to those?
And I have absolute faith in Unai Emery and that it’s happening to him at the same time it’s happening to Manchester City and Arsenal, in a very strange way, just confirms it for me. Strange right?
Pundit madness
But back to the pundits. Or do I call it broadcaster madness and am I a broadcaster? I mean, I’ve done a little radio and TV. Not for years and I really didn’t like it. I even did a YouTube thing a season or three ago because I thought it might help with tickets but it didn’t and I did feel like I was selling my soul.
I don’t think I can do that, not for Aston Villa or football. Not like some can. Sure, there are some that don’t and they’re proper journalists and reporters, not the modern day broadcaster that has a podcast or is willing to say whatever they have to say for a date. Right, enough on this. Now onto something completely different.
International madness
So, Morgan Rogers got called up to the England squad and this is a good thing, I think. I mean, it’s recognition for his performances of late. And while from the outside looking in, it does look a little like he’s third choice, he does have to say yes. Or maybe that’s his thought. If I was him and this is so easy to write, I’d have said no.
If I was his manager, I’d have told him like the other managers told their players to play injured and have a week in the sun, that he’s clearly doing the right thing, but use this as a signal that things are getting better for him, but there is more work to do but take this chance for a rest also.
I’d tell him to work harder and make himself the first choice. Then it wont matter if he said no when he was third choice.
And with so many players having pulled out that would have likely played for their Club this weekend if there was a Club game, is this finally confirmation that the players have had enough? And mark my words, some of these players are already on the beach and they’ll be back with tans. It is right?
