West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has experienced a truly rotten last 15 months or so.
Lucas Paqueta was recently charged for his alleged role in a potential betting scam, after the investigation into the West Ham star began in August 2023.
The charges being levelled at him are extremely serious ones, and he apparently faces a lifetime ban if found guilty.
Paqueta has been in abysmal form for the Hammers this season, and numerous pundits have highlighted how the Brazilian has been miles off the pace.
It can’t be easy for him playing when his future is completely up in the air right now.
The South American desperately needs closure on the current situation he finds himself in, one way or the other.
Now though, he’s just been dealt yet another crushing blow.
West Ham star Lucas Paqueta dealt brand new blow
The Brazilian could be forgiven for thinking that his rough run might be close to ending.
However, there’s clearly still a long way to go regarding his betting trial.
And now Lucas has been handed some more bad news…
According to Brazilian media outlet Torcedor, Paqueta will not start for Brazil against Venezuela later tonight, with Dorival Junior opting to start Gerson instead.
The 27-year-old Hammers star missed Brazil’s last outing through suspension – a 4-0 win over Peru.
He is part of the Samba Boys squad for their World Cup qualifying fixtures against Venezuela and Uruguay.
But he will miss out tonight. That will be a big blow to Paqueta’s confidence – something he really didn’t need given the problems in his life right now.
In fairness, he has been in really poor form for the Hammers this season, and I was surprised he was actually included in the Brazil squad to begin with.
Maybe being dropped is exactly what he needs, but it won’t feel like that for him right now.
West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta will be feeling pretty low at the moment, there’s no sugar-coating it.
I’m just hoping that he gets some good news soon.
