Guido Rodriguez joined West Ham United on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, three months ago.
West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui insisted on the signing of Guido Rodriguez, and he got his way in the end, beating the likes of Barcelona to bring him to the London Stadium.
He has struggled for the Hammers so far though, and West Ham should actually be looking to sell Guido Rodriguez for an instant profit in January.
That’s what I’m thinking anyway. He has struggled to adapt to life in England so far.
Rodriguez was sensational over the past few years for Real Betis, so when we signed him it seemed like we had secured a real coup.
However, there’s something missing isn’t there. The Hammers have been far too easy to play against this season.
Our midfield has been wide open and easy to play against – something that Rodriguez has to take responsibility for.
Put it this way, he hasn’t impressed me one little bit so far.
And now a new claim has emerged out in Spain about the Argentina international.
Surprising Guido Rodriguez claim 3 months into West Ham career
The experienced midfielder has struggled to adjust to the intensity of Premier League football so far.
There’s no shame in that – a lot of players who swap La Liga for the Premier League suffer with the same problem.
However, a shock claim has emerged out in Spain regarding Rodriguez’s mentality right now.
According to Spanish publication SPORT, Rodriguez is ‘not enjoying his experience in the British competition’.
If that is the case, it sounds ominous to me. Sometimes it’s clear to see that a player isn’t suited to a particular league.
Now, the Argentinian midfielder has endured a very tough start to life in England with the Hammers.
However, it’s worth noting that Lopetegui has started him in every single Premier League game so far this season.
It’s a shock claim to suggest that someone who has started every single Premier League game for West Ham so far is ‘not enjoying his experience’.
That said, he has flattered to deceive, aside from an extremely impressive first-half performance against Tottenham in October.
He was hauled off by Lopetegui before half-time during our 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea back in September.
And that summed up his start to life with West Ham in my opinion.
As far as I’m concerned, the 30-year-old doesn’t have the physical attributes required to play in the Premier League.
He’s incredibly slow, lacks any kind of athleticism, and is far too easy to bypass as a result of that.
I get that we signed him on a free transfer, so there was limited risk involved, but I cannot believe that Lopetegui didn’t push harder to bring in a central midfield powerhouse instead, with dynamism and energy in abundance.
It’s obviously still very early days, but I don’t envisage a scenario whereby Guido Rodriguez will be a huge success with West Ham.
He’s far too immobile and we don’t retain possession well enough as a team for him to be effective for us.
I really hope I’m wrong, but I feel like the Hammers are already on the look-out for a midfielder with ball-carrying ability to upgrade on the South American.
Rodriguez just doesn’t possesses the skill-set we need right now unfortunately.
