Mohammed Kudus has been set a big challenge by his West Ham United teammate Michail Antonio.
Michail Antonio is a huge fan of West Ham attacker Mohammed Kudus, and recently described him as an ‘unbelievable’ player.
However, Kudus has been out of action since mid-October, when he was sent-off for violent conduct during out 4-1 defeat away to Tottenham.
And the really frustrating thing is that we won’t have him back until our clash with Leicester City on December 3rd.
Julen Lopetegui will be desperate for Kudus to return to action, with his job at the London Stadium currently on the line.
That said, as good as Kudus undoubtedly is, he still has so much more to offer.
And Antonio has just alluded to exactly that.
Michail Antonio demands more of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus
The Ghana international has been sensational for the Hammers since joining us from Ajax in the summer of 2023.
He has bagged 16 goals and seven assists in 55 games in all competitions for West Ham so far.
However, he hasn’t been anywhere near his brilliant best for us this season, and he has struggled when playing for Ghana as well.
Now one of his teammates has urged him to improve.
Antonio has been out in Ghana recently to oversee the progress of his new football academy.
The Jamaica international spoke to reporters and challenged Kudus to do even more in order to reach the next level, as quoted by Ghana SoccerNet:
“With Mo’s talent, there’s a 100% chance that he can win (African footballer of the year),” he said. “Obviously, there are some great potentials there. There’s [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, Mo Salah, [Sadio] Mane, and there’s definitely Kudus – I believe he has the talent to do it.”
“It’s just he needs the surroundings of his team to help him to do it, and right now, Ghana aren’t at that quality. Ghana has a quality history, but right now, they’re not doing as well as they feel like they should be doing.
“For him to achieve the award, I feel he and Ghana, as a team, has to do more for that to happen.”
I actually like that from Antonio.
The fact that he’s challenging Kudus to become an even better player may well be just what the Ghanaian needs.
West Ham have missed Mohammed Kudus badly during his absence through suspension, but I believe he’ll return to action firing on all cylinders.
And the comments from Antonio should really put the fire back in the 24-year-old’s belly.
