John Wenham has suggested that Brentford may offer Sergio Reguilón a contract worth over £9 million once his current deal with Tottenham expires. The 27-year-old left-back, who has struggled to feature under Ange Postecoglou and been sidelined from the squad, is expected to stay in North London until his contract ends in June 2025. A move back to Brentford could provide the former Real Madrid player with the opportunity to revive his career, away from the sidelines at Spurs.
Despite CaughtOffside reporting on 9 November that Reguilón is eager to terminate his contract with Tottenham in January to secure regular first-team football elsewhere, John Wenham, speaking to Tottenham News, believes this would not be the best move for the player. Wenham suggests that the 27-year-old might be better off staying at Spurs until his contract expires, with a potential summer transfer offering a clearer path for his career.
Will the Left-Back head back to Brentford
Reguilón’s previous loan spell with Brentford could play a significant role in any potential return, with the Bees possibly eyeing him again. If the defender becomes a free agent next summer, the prospect of rejoining Brentford could be particularly appealing. Despite limited playing time in recent years, Reguilón still possesses valuable experience and has plenty of years left in his career. Should he spend the final months of his Tottenham contract without regular football, he will likely attract a number of enticing offers when the transfer window reopens.
Tottenham, too, would likely be keen to offload Reguilón and free up salary space for potential new signings. With the club struggling to cope without key players—especially with six players currently unavailable—Angé Postecoglou will undoubtedly be eager to improve squad depth. As Tottenham looks to strengthen their ranks, offloading Reguilón’s £53,000-a-week wages could be a crucial step in making room for reinforcements.
Wenham speaking to Tottenham News – doesn’t think this would be a good idea for the player
“There is so little time left on his deal, it is probably better for him to wait it out,”
“Then, he can see what contracts are available to him with other clubs. Perhaps Brentford might offer him a three-year deal worth £60,000 per week at the end of the season. Therefore, I’d expect him to just stick it out for the season.”

Reguilón, having played for five different Spanish sides, could certainly find a return to La Liga appealing. However, Sevilla and Getafe aren’t the only clubs showing interest in the left-back. Recent reports have linked him with a move to Fenerbahce, with his former boss, José Mourinho, reportedly keen on bringing him to Turkey in January. Now, with Brentford entering the race, it’s clear that multiple clubs are competing for the experienced left-back’s services.
