West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug hasn’t enjoyed the best of starts to life in England has he.
Niclas Fullkrug arrived at the London Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in the summer for around £27 million – a deal that many West Ham fans weren’t too happy about.
And as things stand, Tim Steidten has been made to look rather silly, after the 31-year-old striker’s awful start.
Sure, he hasn’t played much, but he just hasn’t been up to speed when he has taken to the field.
What makes the situation even more frustrating is that some of the strikers we were linked with in the summer are absolutely flying right now – namely Jhon Duran.
No official return date has been pencilled in for Fullkrug just yet, and the Hammers are said to be trying ‘alternative remedies’ in order to get him back ready and fit enough to feature.
The wisdom behind that is debatable, but we will have to wait and see if it yields results.
Many fans are expecting a long wait before we see the Germany international back in action for us.
However, all of that may be about to change, after a report specialising in player injuries made a new claim on Fullkrug.
Niclas Fullkrug return date might shock the West Ham fans
The former Borussia Dortmund man has had a chastening experience since swapping Germany for England in the summer.
He has only played 63 minutes of Premier League football, so it seems way too harsh to write him off as a failure already.
However, the warning signs are definitely there.
Fullkrug will be 32 in the new year, and on the little evidence that we’ve seen already, it seems like he just hasn’t got the legs needed to play in the Premier League.
It really irks me that we didn’t go all out to sign someone like Jhon Duran or Jonathan David in the summer, instead of the 31-year-old.
However, it goes without saying that when he does return to action, he will have the full support of the fans.
When will that be though?
According to a report from Premier Injuries, Fullkrug could return to action for West Ham on November 30th, when we play host to Arsenal.
Now, Fullkrug returning to the Hammers squad for our game against Arsenal would be quite the shock.
The West Ham squad had their official team photo taken last week, with one notable absentee – Niclas Fullkrug.
The Hammers photoshopped the German into the picture, in really amateurish fashion it must be said!
If he was unable to partake in a squad photo, I very highly doubt that he’ll be back in time to feature for the Hammers against Arsenal.
Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham career could be over before it began
Things have gone from bad to worse for Fullkrug over the past couple of months.
His Achilles injury has kept him out of action for the Hammers for more than two months now, and he has lost his place in the Germany national team.
The thing is, if he does return to action before the January window, and gets back to full fitness, the Hammers will surely be tempted to cash in on him if a bid comes in.
Whether West Ham will receive any interest in Niclas Fullkrug remains to be seen though.
Most top clubs who will be able to afford a decent transfer fee for him will surely have been put off by his recent injury problems.
He has proven over the past couple of years with Dortmund and Germany that he’s a very good centre-forward.
The Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish to every other league in the world though.
And I really have my doubts that Fullkrug will ever succeed at the London Stadium unfortunately.
