Real Madrid prodigy Arda Guler has been linked with Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to dip their toes in the January transfer window following an underwhelming start to the season.
The North Londoners spent a lot of money in the summer, but their squad still has a few gaping holes that need addressing. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s side sit 10th in the Premier League table, and improvements are certainly required if they are to bring Champions League nights back to White Hart Lane next year.
Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold has revealed that Ange Postecoglou would love to sign a creative midfielder during the January transfer window if the opportunity arises. That said, Tottenham can fulfil their gaffer’s requirement by signing a Real Madrid player.
According to a report from Football London, Spurs could revive their interest in Arda Guler after the player’s slow start to the season.
The Turkish talent, who made a move from Fenerbahce to Real Madrid last year, has been struggling for game time under Carlo Ancelotti. Despite an injury-hit debut season with Los Blancos, Arda Guler finished 2023/24 impressively with six goals in just 10 league appearances and won the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy.
The teenager’s quality and potential were on display at the 2024 European Championships in Germany, where he netted a thunderbolt against Georgia, helping Turkiye reach the quarter-finals of the competition. Tottenham had shown an interest in Guler earlier this year, but talks of a transfer never happened.
Guler has struggled for minutes, starting only three times in 12 appearances for Madrid, who have not been great this season and lie six points adrift of league leaders Barcelona. That combined with the creative midfielder enduring a lacklustre recent international break—according to Turkish pundit Mustafa Denzil—could potentially open the door for the Lilywhites to make a move for him during the January transfer window.
Hailed as the ‘Turkish Messi’, which is glowing praise indeed and amplifies what a coup Guler would be if Spurs were to land his signature on loan. In James Maddison, Big Ange has only one specialist No.10 in his squad. However, with Maddison struggling with form, the Turkish international’s potential arrival would bolster Tottenham’s midfield and bring a new dimension to the attack.

As the teenage prodigy from Altindag continues to face problems clocking regular minutes at Real Madrid, there would not be a better time than the January transfer window for Spurs to reach out to Los Blancos asking for a dry loan for Guler.
