West Ham United took on Southampton in the Premier League at St Mary’s on Boxing Day.
The Premier League showdown between West Ham and Southampton was an absolutely vital one for both sides.
It was actually a really poor performance from West Ham, certainly inside the final third.
However, we defended solidly, and Southampton were profligate in front of goal when we needed them to be!
The Hammers took the lead early on on the second-half when Jarrod Bowen fired home from a Niclas Fullkrug flick on.
West Ham held on for all three points in the end.
It wasn’t a great performance from the Hammers, but the boys got the job done in the end.
Lopetegui’s job seems to be safe again, for another week at least. However, if he’s to remain in charge for the foreseeable future, he has to stop placing so much trust in one player in particular…
West Ham player’s performance vs Southampton was embarrassing
The Hammers have had to play with far too many passengers this season.
It just hasn’t been anywhere near good enough from many of our top players.
And one of them who has been well off the pace is one of our nine summer signings.
Guido Rodriguez has been absolutely awful for West Ham this season in my opinion.
The 30-year-old is nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football – he just hasn’t got the physicality needed to succeed in England’s top flight.
And his display against the Saints today proved once again that we need to ship him out the first chance we get.
Rodriguez has actually been heavily linked with a move to River Plate in January, and it’s a deal that the Hammers have to force through.
The Argentina international is so slow, and he lacks the required power to compete in midfield in the Premier League.
He was beaten time and time again in duels today, and he lost out when battling for second balls.
His passing isn’t progressive enough either in my eyes. He’s a decent player but he certainly has nothing special about him.
West Ham need to sell Guido Rodriguez in January after his performance against Southampton on Boxing Day.
That must be painfully obvious to see for Lopetegui, Tim Steidten and the board.
