Bayern Munich’s current rising star Adam Aznou has had a wonderful 2024, rising through the Bavarian ranks, captaining Bayern’s U-19s into the UEFA Youth League, making his debut for Morocco and making his Champions League debut. Joy evident in his voice, Azou acknowledged the wonderful year he has had: “It was a spectacularly good year for me. With my first Bundesliga game and my debut for the Moroccan national team, I was able to make a big leap. I achieved all the goals I had set for myself for 2024.”
But his debut with Bayern did not lead to many more minutes with the senior team, with the youngster starved for game time on the Bavarians’ bench. Naturally, the solution must be to send the former FC Barcelona youngster out on loan. Right?
Aznou, however, does not see it that way: “At the moment I don’t want to go out on loan. In my opinion, that’s not the best option for just six months,” Aznou mused, via @iMiaSanMia. “Maybe that will be an option in the summer – but that depends on how the next few months will go until the end of the season and what is best for my development by then.”
So what are his plans for 2025? “I want to fight for my place in the first team, that’s a big challenge at Bayern.”
BFW Analysis
Aznou has a point in saying that six months loans are risky. Without any pre-season or much of any preparation, Aznou would have to adapt to a new place, new people, build new chemistry with his teammates and convince the coach he is so much better than his competition that the coach is willing to ignore the Moroccan’s departure in a few months and that Aznou will not be a long term solution. That is a tall order.
However, it did work for Frans Krätzig last season, whose loan to Austria Wien gave him invaluable experience in the Austrian Bundesliga. And Aznou’s alternative to a loan is playing in the Regionalliga, which he is overqualified for, and hoping he gets some spare minutes from head coach Vincent Kompany as the team approaches the business end of the season. Neither option seems particularly great.
