West Ham United face a major problem in the January transfer window, with Aston Villa said to be lining up a big statement signing.
Julen Lopetegui and Unai Emery are both desperate to bolster their ranks at West Ham and Aston Villa respectively in the January window.
Lopetegui’s job is said to be safe for now, so he will undoubtedly be plotting some big moves in the market this winter.
The Spaniard isn’t completely bulletproof though, and he will know that. Our next three Premier League games are against Liverpool, Manchester City and Fulham.
Meanwhile, the Hammers face Aston Villa in the FA Cup in a couple of weeks time.
If Lopetegui safely navigates that period, I’m sure he will be given until the end of the season to prove himself.
One or two big moves in January will improve our chances of making a push for the top seven during the second half of the season.
However, Villa look set to cause us a problem…
Aston Villa trying to cause West Ham big January window problem
Emery is eyeing up a major transfer move this winter.
The Spaniard is quite clearly keen to bolster his attacking options at Villa Park.
And Emery’s next move could have big consequences for West Ham.
That’s because AS (print edition December 27th) are claiming that Aston Villa want to sign Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez this winter.
West Ham are said to be very keen indeed on signing Brais Mendez in January.
However, our chances of bringing the Spaniard to the London Stadium look unlikely now, given Villa’s pull and spending power.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t look at Sociedad ace Mendez as the saviour to all of our problems.
It just looks like Aston Villa are going to make a positive January transfer window move by beating West Ham to one of our targets.
Hopefully Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have some more exciting plans up their sleeves this winter.
