Graham Potter is clearly the man who the West Ham board want to replace Julen Lopetegui.
Julen Lopetegui has endured a disastrous six months in charge of West Ham,
It emerged on Monday that the Hammers board had finally decided to part ways with Lopetegui and replace him with Potter.
That was quite the turnaround from the West Ham owners, after it was claimed that Lopetegui would be given more time to turn things around after our 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
To be clear, I think Lopetegui should have been sacked in October after our capitulation away at Tottenham.
He has outstayed his welcome at the London Stadium, and it’s time to make a big change.
It was initially claimed that the Hammers had held informal talks with Potter about coming into the club to replace Lopetegui.
Now though, there’s been a big twist it seems.
Graham Potter claim after West Ham make Julen Lopetegui U-turn
Lopetegui was expected to be given a few more games at least to turn things around.
Now he faces being moved on today.
A stunning new claim has emerged overnight from one of the most reliable sources around,
The Times claim that the Hammers have formally offered Potter the job up until the end of the season after deciding to sack Lopetegui.
The Spaniard is not expected to be in charge of our next Premier League game against Fulham on Tuesday and it is unclear as to who will be in the dug-out for our FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday night.
What is clear is that Lopetegui is done at the London Stadium, and rightly so. He has proven to be utterly clueless since taking over the Hammers six months ago.
Now’s the time for Potter to come in and take us to another level.
The question is, have the Hammers fans got the stomach to go through the 12-18 months of pain before we see Potter’s ideas and footballing philosophy come to fruition?
I certainly hope so, because what lies ahead for West Ham with Potter could be hugely exciting for us as a club.
What style can West Ham fans expect to see under Graham Potter
The 49-year-old favours a possession-based system and demands constant movement from his players.
Potter likes his players to interchange positions and create overloads in the wide areas.
The former Chelsea boss is incredibly versatile, and has been known to use as many as EIGHT systems during games.
Whilst he struggled at Chelsea, his team always dominated the ball, but they lacked any kind of ruthless edge inside the final third.
West Ham would probably go through a similar evolution over the next year or so with Graham Potter at the helm.
What we would see is an easy-on-the-eye brand of football, with clear and discernible patterns of play.
Potter’s style is like night and day from Lopetegui’s, and I think he’ll be a huge hit at West Ham.
I think we’re the perfect club for him and vice-versa.
