Graham Potter is set to be announced as the new West Ham United manager imminently.
And when he arrives at the London Stadium, he has a lot of work to do with the squad.
The future will be very bright for West Ham with Graham Potter at the helm, and I cannot wait to see our team play some proper football for a change.
The Hammers board have apparently told Potter that he will have funds to spend in the January transfer window.
And that’s obviously great news for us.
The former Chelsea manager’s main priorities will be to sign a centre-forward with real pace, a central midfield ball-carrying powerhouse, and a central defender who is both strong in the air but also competent with the ball at his feet.
Whether or not he will be able to get all of those signings completed before the end of the January window remains to be seen.
However, I fully expect our squad to be much more balanced after the end of the summer transfer window closes in seven month’s time.
I also think that Potter will come in and move on numerous players on permanent deals.
£30m man won’t have a future at West Ham under Graham Potter
The Hammers have a lot of deadwood that need shifting from the club over the next two transfer windows.
One of them is currently out on loan, but he needs to be sold asap in my opinion.
Nayef Aguerd left the Hammers to join Real Sociedad on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day in the summer.
Surprisingly, he has been exceptional for the La Liga side. Perhaps he’s just more suited to Spanish football than he is to the English game.
However, Aguerd recently admitted that he could still return to West Ham at the end of the season.
I’ve seen plenty of Hammers fans suggesting that the Morocco international would be perfect for Lopetegui’s system due to his ability on the ball.
Those fans must have short memories though – Aguerd is awful when tasked with actual defending and he is woefully ill-equipped to deal with the physically robust nature of Premier League football.
The former Rennes centre-back has the worst positional sense I have seen from a supposed top tier defender.
His concentration levels were appalling during his time with the Hammers, and he was regularly bullied by opposing strikers.
There is absolutely no way Nayef Aguerd has a future under Graham Potter at West Ham. If the 49-year-old harbours genuine ambitions of getting us back into Europe, selling Aguerd on a permanent deal this summer should be his first port of call.
