While Bayern Munich’s senior team were limited to a 3 week winter break, the U-19s’ break will have lasted nearly 2 months by the time they face off against FC Köln in the revamped version of the U-19 Bundesliga. However, the U-19s will certainly contest a lot more test matches than the senior team did. FCBayern.com captures the team’s schedule to start the year:
The young players of the German record champions will face the young players of Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers, among others, in the Mercedes Benz Cup in the Sindelfingen Glaspalast [this weekend on January 11-12]. In addition, head coach Gaydarov’s team will have three test matches. On January 18th (11am), the U18s will host West Ham United. The following weekend, the Munich team will play against Schwaben Augsburg (11am), before the dress rehearsal against Slovan Bratislava (4pm) on January 29th.
Such a long break naturally necessitates a lot of practice to stay fit and ready, especially for the team’s first ever bout in the new U-19 Bundesliga format, which looks to pit Bayern against the best U-19 teams in the country during the Rückrunde. The youngsters will need to stay on their toes as the tough opponents will keep coming.
