Graham Potter absolutely has to bring a bare minimum of two top-class players to West Ham United in the January transfer window.
West Ham appointed Graham Potter as the new head coach on Thursday, after Julen Lopetegui was sacked on Wednesday.
Potter has already made a big impact at West Ham, and our performance against Aston Villa on Friday night was hugely impressive.
Potter isn’t resting on his laurels though, and has already suggested that he’ll be looking to strengthen his ranks in this month.
The additions of a new striker and a powerful central midfielder will be absolutely crucial to our hopes of success in my opinion.
The Hammers are incredibly short up front and we desperately lack any kind of pace and power in the middle of the pitch.
It seems like the powers that be at West Ham could change all of that in an instant this month though.
West Ham eyeing astonishing double deal in the January window
Potter already has some fantastic players at his disposal at the London Stadium.
However, there are a couple of positions that needs to be addressed urgently.
And the Hammers seems to be intent on doing exactly that before the end of the month.
Fichajes have claimed that the Hammers are ramping up our interest in signing Jonathan David from Lille.
Meanwhile, Douglas Luiz is believed to be firmly on West Ham’s transfer radar in the January window.
If Potter manages to get deals for those two players over the line, we will have a seriously exciting team on our hands.
David, 24, will be available on a free transfer in the summer, but if West Ham want to sign him in the summer, he’ll still be available on a bargain deal.
And Juventus are said to be desperate to sell former Aston Villa midfielder Luiz in order to raise funds (Daily Mail).
With David’s pace up front and Luiz creativity, guile and power in midfield, the Hammers would be an incredibly strong outfit.
David has bagged an impressive 17 goals and five assists in 28 games for Lille so far this season (Transfermarkt).
The Canada international would be perfect for us, what with his blistering pace, terrific movement and elite finishing ability.
The thought of David playing in between Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus and just in front of Lucas Paqueta is a scintillating one.
Meanwhile, Luiz is an exceptionally gifted footballer from a technical perspective, but he has copious amounts of pace and power in his locker as well.
He’s not afraid of getting stuck in either, and never shirks his defensive responsibilities.
The former Aston Villa star would compliment the likes of Carlos Soler and Lucas Paqueta in the middle of the park.
During his final season at Villa Park, Luiz bagged nine goals and five assists in 35 Premier League games (Who Scored).
So he clearly has real output inside the final third as well as being a terrific all-round midfielder.
The future is very bright indeed for West Ham with Graham Potter at the helm, and the additions of Jonathan David and Douglas Luiz would mean we would instantly be contenders for the European spots.
