David Moyes has spoken for the first time since returning to Everton for a second spell as manager. The Scot, enjoys the best Premier League record of any Blues boss, steering them to a competition high finish of fourth in 2004/05, one of nine top half places over a tenue of more than 11 years between March 2002-May 2013.
Everton Football Club released an announcement at 9am in which they said that the club “is delighted to welcome back David Moyes as their new manager, effective immediately.”
Moyes said: “It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club.
“I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”

The club add that further announcements on Moyes’ backroom staff will follow in due course. During his first spell as Everton manager, Alan Irvine and Steve Round worked as Moyes’ assistants but his fellow Glaswegian Billy McKinlay, who was his number two at West Ham United is understood to be rejoining him while there could also be another Goodison return for Irvine.
Moyes, who defeated Fulham in his first Everton game in charge almost 23 years ago, will start his second spell at home to Aston Villa on Wednesday (7:30pm kick-off).
