When Tottenham Hotspur announced the extension of Son Heung-min’s contract at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2026, it seemed that the Lilywhites had locked in the future of one of their most loyal and influential players; however, the question of whether the South Korean will remain at N17 for the long term remains.
However, the fact that many of the teammates at Hotspur Way failed to express the emotions made way to dissatisfaction from a section of supporters who were soon to bring this contract renewal into question.
King thinks Son can pursue one last big move
And despite the contract, the South Korean international can still seek to continue his career beyond White Hart Lane, and former Spurs scout Bryan King insists that the 32-year-old could be thinking about his final big career move.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“I think he is getting to an age now where he feels that there could be another move if Spurs don’t win something. They still have a chance in the Carabao Cup after grinding out a result against Liverpool. Son is a very loyal player, he is very honourable. He’s had a wonderful playing career, without much success.
“He’s been a great servant to Tottenham, and this contract situation should have been sorted out months ago. However, he is at an age now where he is going to have one more big move.”
Important at N17, but for how long?
Son does remain committed to a future donning the Lilywhites badge, but there will be inevitable speculation of a possible summer exit, and Spanish giants Barcelona have reportedly expressed an interest in signing the wide forward.
The skipper is a widely important figure at White Hart Lane, on the pitch and in the dressing room, and he has replicated 5 goals and 6 assists in the English top tier this season – which is a decent tally judging by his ability and potential.
Son’s journey goes on in North London, for now, but it does not mean an extension guarantees stability.
