West Ham have confirmed Saudi interest in Hammers winger Luis Guilherme… sort of.
Claret & Hugh reached out to a trusted London Stadium source to verify reports that the Brazilian youngster could be sold to a Saudi Pro League team during this transfer window.
According to our insider, there’s a slim 10% chance the 18-year-old winger could be on the move.
While specific details remain undisclosed, it’s believed that West Ham might take a loss on the £20m Palmeiras signing if he departs. The club has also revealed that some players may need to be offloaded to provide new manager Graham Potter with the funds necessary to rebuild a squad ravaged by injuries.
It would be a significant disappointment if Guilherme leaves, especially as he arrived with high expectations but hasn’t been given much of an opportunity.
However, with two wingers and two strikers currently unavailable and Guilherme not even featuring for the under-21s, it’s hard to see where he fits into the team’s plans.
Claret & Hugh says: Ordinarily, I would not do this; however, my earlier reporting of the breaking story from The Times seems to have generated some anger and confusion regarding my personal opinions. I’d like to clarify that just because I’m reporting on a player being sold does not necessarily mean I advocate for it.
Guilherme deserved a chance to play—if not in the first team, then at least with the U21s or on loan to get up to speed. I have said this consistently since September and will include links to my previous articles below.
I completely understand why West Ham fans are frustrated with the failure of the Guilherme transfer. I was as excited as anyone to think we were signing a great young talent from Brazil. Any failure of this transfer (and make no mistake, if he leaves after six months for a loss, it will be a massive failure) is due to the club’s poor forward planning and infrastructure.
That said, I must encourage posters to remain civil towards others in the comments, including fellow posters and writers.
