Given Leroy Sané’s poor performance for Bayern Munich on the weekend against Borussia Mönchengladbach along with the return to fitness of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, many expected the former to be dropped and for the latter two to play more prominent roles. This, however, did not happen. Instead, Sané started again as head coach Vincent Kompany retained his faith in the German winger, which paid off as Sané bagged two goals in a dazzling display.
But why did Kompany start Sané again? Did the former Burnley coach know such a performance was just around the corner?
Kompany explains that Sané’s fundamental qualities make it easy to rely on him: “I see a player who’s accepting to be coached, who’s running hard for the team, who’s doing a lot of work for the team and who, in his moments, is important,” Kompany clarified, via @archiert1 via @iMiaSanMia.
Sané can be frustrating. He can make some bad decisions on the pitch. He can even pretend he does not have a right foot at all, at times. But he always gives it his all, puts in the hard yards and gives his all for the team. And it seems Kompany really values that.
