Gareth Southgate and Kieran McKenna on Tottenham shortlist of potential Ange Postecoglou replacements
Jamie O’Hara said on talkSPORT (h/t Tottenham Hotspur News) that he believes Ange Postecoglou would be shown the door at Tottenham Hotspur if he is unable to guide the Lilywhites to success in the Carabao Cup. Having been rooted in the bottom half of the Premier League, the cup competitions could now be the Australian’s only saving grace.
With many speculating that Postecoglou is on the brink of being sacked after winning just one Premier League game since December began, several others believe he will be given some more time. Amid all the rumour-mongering regarding his continuity, four managers have emerged as the leading contenders to take over the managerial role at Tottenham if indeed a vacancy opens.
According to Bet Victor odds (via Tottenham Hotspur News), Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic are the leading contenders to be the next Tottenham coaches, whereas Didier Deschamps, Gareth Southgate and Marco Silva are also in contention.
McKenna and Southgate are Englishmen with the latter also managing the English national side until the end of Euro 2024, so it is not surprising to see why Spurs are looking at local talent. However, neither McKenna nor Southgate have any major silverware to show for on the highest level, while the former is also on the verge of being relegated with the Tractor Boys.
That said, Didier Deschamps plans to coach the French national side until the end of the 2026 World Cup, by which time a season and a half would have passed and doubts regarding Ange Postecoglou would have become a thing of the past, for better or for worse. Therefore, Deschamps can also be comfortably ruled out of the running and with good reason.

Marco Silva and Edin Terzic seem like the best-suited options for Tottenham, of which the former Borussia Dortmund coach would be the most ideal fit considering how well he did with the Bundesliga side with very limited resources. Not only is Terzic a free agent now, but he will also command a certain respect at Tottenham and in the Premier League in general as a Champions League runner-up.
