Did an offhand remark from Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß poison the waters in the club’s ongoing negotiations with Alphonso Davies? It seems unlikely but the vibes surrounding the reporting have taken a decided turn for the worse since December.
Bayern Munich executive board member for sport Max Eberl is not worried, though. For Eberl, the contract work will all get hammered out in due time…even if he is not by nature a patient man.
“Generally speaking, patience is not one of my qualities,” Eberl said this week in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “But during the contract talks, whether with Alphonso [Davies], Jamal [Musiala], Josh [Kimmich] or Leroy [Sané], we try to act with facts.
“We see the reports and speculation: ‘a deal fell through, then it’s close, then fell through again’. All parties, club and agents are trying to finalize a good contract for the players. We try to come closer together through talks, that’s what we did in the past weeks and months. The talks are good and open, discussions are part of that. It’s legitimate. So my patience is still strong, even though it’s not one of my qualities. We’ll continue to try to make the best decision. The talks are still ongoing.”
Davies, Musiala, Kimmich, Sané…not to mention Manuel Neuer and possibly Thomas Müller. That is a lot of work to get done soon.
