Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has confirmed that the club “will think about” selling Andrea Cambiaso if a formal bid is tabled by Manchester City.
Several reliable sources have suggested that the Premier League champions want to make the Italian international their fourth signing of the January transfer window.
However, when asked about Cambiaso’s future at the weekend, Giuntoli said that no offer had been lodged by City so far this month:
“There is no negotiation at the moment. We want to make an incoming market to fill the gaps, we are not thinking about exits. The offer has not arrived, if it does we will think about it.”
Why do the club want Cambiaso?
The 24-year-old is both footed so he can play as either a right-back or left-back in Pep Guardiola’s back four if required.
With captain Kyle Walker seemingly poised to join AC Milan too, it looks like Cambiaso has been identified as the England international’s replacement.
City have been busy in the transfer market
The Cityzens are expected to announce the signing of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens imminently. The Uzbek international is set to wear the No.45 shirt, having signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the Etihad until 2030. The defender will cost an initial €40m (£34m).
Another centre-back, Vitor Reis, will also arrive from Palmeiras with the young Brazilian set to cost around €35m (£29.5m). City have wrapped the signing of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt as well.
The Egyptian is set to seal a €75m (£63m) switch to Manchester, with an additional €5m (£4.2m) due in performance-related add-ons. Some of these new signings could feature (or at least be in the stands) when Guardiola’s men take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
