The Renato Veiga transfer saga is really dragging on now, but we at least got an update today which confirms that things are moving towards a conclusion of some kind.
Fabrizio Romano has dropped in this afternoon to update us on his exclusive from last week that Juventus are now in the mix for the versatile defender, who only signed for Chelsea last summer from Basel.
Romano now says that the Italian club have sent a loan proposal to Chelsea, and that negotiations continue between the two parties. Borussia Dortmund were the first side to be concretely linked with Veiga, and they are clearly still in the mix too.

Juventus are happy to loan the player without a permanent buy option included. That may be why they’re considered “ahead of” Dortmund, according to Romano. Chelsea at first seemed reluctant to sanction a loan at all, but increasingly seem to have opened up to the idea.
Romano also mentions a third club – but doesn’t specify who they are. Wolves were mentioned in rumours early in the window, but since then the attention has shifted to continental teams.
Chelsea must conclude potential sale now to avoid results suffering
Whatever happens with Veiga, it needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. He was left out of the squad for our game on Monday night against Wolves because this move is already quite far along, and it’s important it’s concluded soon so that Enzo Maresca knows what he has to work with this weekend and beyond.
A quick profit on Veiga will be tempting – but draining the first team of an important backup without leaving sufficient time to replace him in the squad would be a disaster.
