An ex West Ham journalist has made an exciting double claim about a Hammers move for ‘world class’ specialist star James Ward-Prowse.
West Ham fans will be well aware the club have been linked with a move for relegated Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
With Declan Rice on his way out for what will be a club record fee, West Ham will be looking to sign at least one – but more likely to – central midfielders to replace their generational hybrid talent.
Ahead of the win over Saints at the beginning of April, David Moyes effectively admitted he looked at signing Rice’s England teammate last summer.
Reports from the likes of Sky Sports and talkSPORT have suggested West Ham will try again for Southampton’s captain and star man Ward-Prowse in the next window.
Ex West Ham journalist makes exciting double claim about Hammers move for ‘world class’ specialist star James Ward-Prowse
Hammers supporters may remember reporter Jack Rosser from his time covering the club for The Evening Standard.
Now the ex West Ham journalist has made an exciting double claim about a Hammers move for ‘world class’ specialist star Ward-Prowse.
Writing for The Sun, Rosser claims that West Ham are leading the chase to sign the free-kick and set-piece specialist labelled the ‘best in the world’ by Pep Guardiola.
Ward-Prowse update is good news for West Ham on two fronts
Not only that, Rosser states Southampton are willing to accept £40m – £10m less than the previous fee being bandied around.
“Southampton demand £40m for Ward-Prowse transfer as West Ham lead chase for record-breaking midfielder,” Rosser reports.
“Southampton are hoping to land up to £40million for captain James Ward-Prowse this summer despite their relegation. Despite dropping to the Championship, Ward-Prowse still has three years left on his deal and will be in demand this summer, leading to Southampton’s optimistic valuation.
Superb addition for Hammers and the logical next step for player and club
“West Ham have long tracked the England midfielder and are keen to add Fulham’s Joao Palhinha alongside him as they look to replace Declan Rice, a target for Arsenal and Manchester United.”
Ward-Prowse would make an absolutely superb addition for West Ham, where he would play every single game and be in with a shout of potentially skippering the side too.
It is the logical step for the player and the Hammers.
Not only is he a lovely player in the middle of the park.
But Ward-Prowse could also be a long term penalty taker in the Mark Noble mould and bring that all important goal threat from free-kicks and set piece delivery.
The summer window for domestic transfer deals opens on June 14th – one week after West Ham’s Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina.
