Paul Merson has sent a message to the West Ham owners over the club’s summer transfer spending after a £200m kitty claim.
The West Ham transfer rumour mill is already whirring ahead of the summer window.
For now all the focus is on the huge Europa Conference League final on June 7th in Prague.
But just one week later the summer transfer window officially opens for domestic deals and West Ham are already being linked with a host of big moves, in and out.
Much of West Ham’s business will centre around Declan Rice, who is expected to depart for in excess of £100m.
Hammers will have budget of around £200m this summer, but who will be in charge of spending it?
Last week it was claimed by a source close to majority stakeholder David Sullivan that West Ham will have a transfer budget of around £200m this summer.
Who will have ultimate control over how that money is spent remains a grey area, though.
Because the Hammers are working to appoint a leading director of football who will reportedly head up transfers. It is being driven by the board, who are said to be unhappy with how money has been spent by David Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman.

That casts serious doubt over the future of Newman. And it raises questions over how much of a say Moyes will have in West Ham’s transfer dealings should he remain at the club.
Now Paul Merson has sent a message to the West Ham owners over summer transfer spending after the £200m kitty claim.
The Sky Sports pundit has claimed West Ham will not struggle next season with or without Rice.
‘You can trust Moyes to spend money wisely’ Merson tells board
But he says West Ham’s owners must trust Moyes as he backs the Scot to spend the club’s summer money wisely.
“They won’t be where they are this season (next season),” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“I think this season… they’ve got caught up in Europe. I’d be shocked if they weren’t middle of the table next season with Declan Rice or without Declan Rice.
“Yea (they’ll have a good chunk of money to spend) and for me David Moyes is a top manager and he’ll spend it wisely.”
