Torino have rallied the Russians to threaten West Ham with a £22m bill over Nikola Vlasic as talks take an unsavoury turn.
Forgotten man Nikola Vlasic is still officially a West Ham player but his future has looked to be away from the club for a long while now.
David Moyes shipped Vlasic out on a season-long loan to Italian side Torino in the summer.
That’s after the Croatian failed to establish himself at West Ham following a move from CSKA Moscow which could have reportedly cost the Hammers as much as £33m with add-ons and a minimum of £26m.
Vlasic started the season on fire for Torino, raising question marks over the wisdom of Moyes’ decision to allow him to leave the Hammers.
Injuries put the brakes on the midfielder’s superb form and he has struggled since the break for the World Cup.
Torino rally Russians to threaten West Ham with £22m bill over Nikola Vlasic as talks take unsavoury turn
Torino have an option to buy Vlasic from West Ham for around £13.5m. And reports have long suggested it is all but a done deal given how the Croatian midfielder had impressed.
There has been claim and counter claim regarding the situation of late, though.
Several reports have stated Torino have been trying to negotiate West Ham down from that figure to try and get Vlasic for a song.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were reports that West Ham may not have to pay the remainder of what they owed CSKA for Vlasic.
One of the Russian club’s directors previously revealed they never received a second instalment of £7m due from West Ham for the transfer and that the Hammers had used a FIFA option to avoid it.
Report: FIFA ruling set July 31st deadline for £15m Hammers payment or it becomes £22m
Well now Torino are rallying the Russians to threaten West Ham with a £22m bill over Vlasic as talks take an unsavoury turn.
Tuttosport claim Torino could get a boost in their attempts to force West Ham into accepting a lower fee for Vlasic as a result of the legal action taken by CSKA Moscow against the Hammers.
The report claims CSKA maintain they were only paid the first instalment in the €30m (£26m) transfer agreed in August 2021.
“FIFA have come down in favour of CSKA Moscow and warned West Ham must pay the remaining €17.43m (£15m) before July 31 or the figure owed will go up to €25.62m (£22m),” the report states.
If accurate, that gives West Ham around six weeks to reach a resolution with Torino so that they can offset the money against the £15m outstanding to CSKA before the alleged deadline.
