West Ham have denied that former Bayer Leverkusen chief Tim Steidten (left in our picture) is about to be announced as the club’s new technical director.
But they have revealed that he is one of several on a list of candidates who are being considered for the position.
The Mail have declared in a report that a deal was agreed with Steidten ahead of West Ham’s triumph in the Conference final, which qualified the club for next season’s Europa League.
And they add that Steidten, who left Leverkusen in March, is set to sign a contract shortly to take on the technical director role at West Ham.
Lee Dykes of Brentford and Paul Mitchell, who is leaving his role at Monaco, were also considered as contenders for the position.
However, in denying this a source at the club revealed: “That’s not true. Yes he is on the list but no appointment has been made.
Mark Noble’s position will be unaffected
Asked how any appointment would affect Mark Noble’s position at West Ham we were told: “None whatsoever. Mark does an important job which will remain entirely unaffected.”
The 44-year-old initially transitioned from a professional playing career in the German lower leagues to scouting, arriving at Werder Bremen in 2008.
He then left the Bundesliga outfit in 2019 to become head of scouting at Leverkusen.
Steidten is credited as having played a key role in the acquisitions of several young talents at the club, such as Edmond Tapsoba, Jeremie Frimpong and Piero Hincapie.
