West Ham have beaten Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs to the most important signing of the summer as the Hammers close in on capture.
If you were to list the Premier League’s biggest under performers last season then West Ham, their London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool would be in the mix.
The Hammers, Spurs, Chelsea and Jurgen Klopp’s Reds fell way below expectations in the league.
So it is no surprise that all four clubs have been looking to make big changes ahead of the summer transfer window.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has been leading a push to bring in a top level Director of Football at West Ham.

But Liverpool, Daniel Levy at Tottenham and Todd Boehly at Chelsea have all been in the market trying to do the same thing.
West Ham want to appoint a DoF alongside sporting director Mark Noble to improve recruitment and how transfer money is spent.
Tottenham are looking to fill the role left by Fabio Paratici after he was handed a 30-month ban by Fifa for his involvement in the Juventus scandal.
Last month Liverpool appointed ex Wolfsburg sporting director Jorg Schmadtke to the role vacated by Michael Edwards, who was one of the names being linked with West Ham.
Coveted is an understatement
Chelsea’s failings in the transfer market have led to speculation Boehly may make further changes in that department having appointed Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley as co-sporting directors.
Well it seems the race for the boardroom face may have been won by Sullivan.
West Ham beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs to the most important signing of the summer as the Hammers close in.
As reported yesterday, Fabrizio Romano claimed former Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Tim Steidten is set to be appointed by West Ham.
Romano claims West Ham beat Tottenham to Steidten and that the capture will be announced soon.
‘Agreement was struck before the European triumph’
The Daily Mail then also claimed the Hammers are in advanced talks and that an agreement was struck before last week’s Europa Conference League triumph.
It turns out not only have the Hammers landed the man bitter rivals Spurs wanted. But Liverpool and Chelsea tried to bring him on board when they were looking to fill their vacancies too.
Football.London reported on Boehly’s pursuit of Steidten previously. And at the end of April, the Liverpool Echo claimed the soon-to-be West Ham sporting director was the man owners FSG would love.
To say the German has been coveted is an understatement in the extreme.
It seems the Hammers have really pulled off quite a coup if Steidten is the new man pulling the transfer strings at West Ham.
