It is ’embarrassing’ for Everton that former manager Carlo Ancelotti is suing them.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Everton’s troubles are getting “higher and higher”.
The Daily Mail revealed on Monday (12 June) that Ancelotti has filed a lawsuit against Everton in the High Court.
The Italian boss took charge of the Toffees for 18 months but departed Goodison Park two years ago after being offered the opportunity to return to Real Madrid.
It is understood that the lawsuit regards ‘general commercial contracts and arrangements’, with the claim set to be heard in the commercial court.
The legal battle comes at a time when Everton are facing a charge of financial fair play breach by the Premier League as well as trying to finance the construction of their Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.
Maguire insists the lawsuit will not have a ‘critical’ impact on Everton’s finances, but slammed the club’s board for having no strategy.
“Carlo Ancelotti suing Everton relating to general commercial contracts and arrangements is not going to be critical for the club’s finances, but it is embarrassing,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“It is indicative that an out-of-court settlement couldn’t be reached, as these issues are usually resolved in private.
“Everton’s troubles are getting higher and higher, and it is indicative of a board and a club at the top level that doesn’t seem to have any proper strategy.
“The quicker this is resolved is better for all involved.“
