It would be down to Farhad Moshiri to pay a £300million fine if Everton are found guilty of their Financial Fair Play charges.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about reports of the Toffees facing a £300million legal bill if found guilty.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Southampton, Leicester, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Burnley believe they are entitled to compensation if Everton are found guilty of spending breaches.
The report adds that the Premier League clubs could sue the Toffees for as much as £300million for compensation.
Everton’s FFP case will take place in front of an independent commission on 25 October 2023.
Maguire believes it would be the responsibility of Everton owner Moshiri to pay such a fine as third-party lenders would not help provide funds.
“It would be very challenging for Farhad Moshiri to find that kind of money,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“But if we refer to the Queens Park Rangers case, they are still paying fines in instalments over 10 years or so.
“So I think if Everton are going to face a fine of this nature I think it is highly unlikely that third-party lenders would provide the funds.
“Therefore it would come down to the position of Farhad Moshiri to put his hands in his pockets.
“Nobody knows the extent of his wealth, but this would be critical as far as the club is concerned.“
