It would not be a surprise to see Bill Kenwright leave Everton this summer after three directors were ‘thrown under the bus’ by Farhad Moshiri.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the board reshuffle at Goodison Park this summer.
Everton announced on Monday (12 June) that Chief Executive Officer Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Chief Finance and Strategy Officer Grant Ingles and Non-Executive Director Graeme Sharp stepped down from their roles at the club.
The club added that “A statement will be made about interim appointments and the future of the Chairman in the next 48 hours.”
The Toffees are yet to provide an update on the future of Kenwright six days after the club statement, but an exit seems likely for the 77-year-old amid protests from the fanbase.
Maguire believes the three directors were ‘encouraged’ to leave by owner Farhad Moshiri amid imminent investment from MSP Holdings.
“There has been a relationship breakdown between those at the top at Everton and the fanbase,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“I suspect that the three directors who did step down at Goodison Park were strongly encouraged to do so and they have been thrown under the bus by the owner.
“With MSP also likely to come on board at the club this summer, this could also be part of the reasons why they have chosen to start up a relationship with Everton fans.
“It could be that MSP feels it would be best with a completely new board at the club.
“I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Bill Kenwright was added to the list of people no longer on the Everton board this summer.“
