The Mirror report that three Premier League clubs are interested in Eddie Nketiah, and the striker could potentially be one of those moved on to raise money for transfers and clear space on the wage bill.
It was only a year ago that Nketiah signed a new contract with Arsenal to 2027, and he followed that up by making 39 appearances for the Gunners, scoring nine goals and assisting three.
But just under half of those appearances were in the starting lineup, and all of the Premier League starts were during the period of the season when Gabriel Jesus was injured.
Perhaps the addition of Kai Havertz to Mikel Arteta’s squad could also play into Nketiah’s thinking.
It’s not entirely clear where the Chelsea man might end up in Arteta’s team, with some reports suggesting he might play in midfield, but others hinting at a role in the front three.
If the latter is the case, then that’s another forward to fit in, along with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Reiss Nelson (should he extend), and Nketiah.
Folarin Balogun, Marquinhos, and Nicolas Pepe are all returning from loans as well, though they aren’t currently expected to stick around.
With just three spots in the front line for as many as 10 players, we’re going to see at least a few departures from the above group.
Whilst there’s nothing concrete in Nketiah’s case just yet, Arsenal’s sales will largely be determined by the offers that actually come in.
If Nketiah is easier to move on for a significant fee than some of the others, you’d imagine Arsenal will consider it.
