The 26-year-old centre-back has allegedly chosen to join Bayern instead of Newcastle but the point remains the same, West Ham must act much quicker when we get the chance to sign unpolished gems.

The Magpies are a huge club now, and Bayern Munich always have been. Those are the kind of teams we cannot compete against in the transfer market.
So the Hammers need to take punts on so-called lesser known players when they become available.
Kim Min-jae would have been superb for West Ham. And had we signed him for £2.5 million four years ago, worst ways we would be making a huge profit this summer.
Since joining Napoli, the South Korean has gone on to establish himself as one of the world’s very best centre-backs. He is tall, aggressive in the challenge, commanding in the air and has really impressive pace for a central defender.
The 26-year-old is a superb reader of the game as well. He has been a huge hit in Naples, forming the cornerstone of a Napoli defence that conceded just 28 goals in 38 Serie A games this season.
Kim Min-jae is an absolutely superb centre-back and has been described as ‘incredible’ by Forbes.
Bayern are said to be closing in on the signing of the South Korean (Yahoo).
His release clause is apparently set at about €45 million (£38 million).
However, West Ham could have signed him for £35.5 million less than that amount in 2019. What might have been!
Newcastle are not only showing way more ambition than us once again by trying to sign Kim Min-jae, but it’s also a timely reminder for Moyes and West Ham that we need to get our business done early and sign players before they become elite stars.
