West Ham are planning to make a major official announcement on Friday after an agreement with ‘Pearl Diver’ Tim Steidten.
Back on June 14th transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano revealed West Ham were set to appoint Tim Steidten as their new Director of Football.
Romano claimed West Ham beat rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to the ex Bayer Leverkusen director.
And it has been widely reported that Liverpool were interested in Steidten too at one stage.
After Romano’s claims, it was claimed elsewhere that the Hammers appointment was not a done deal. Romano was even called a “fraud” by some supporters on social media.
However he was clearly spot on.
Because West Ham are planning to make a major official announcement on Friday after an agreement with ‘Pearl Diver’ Steidten.

Kicker claims Steidten has agreed to become the new West Ham DoF and will start work on July 1st.
And German reporter Dominik Schneider says the official announcement will be made by the Hammers on Friday (June 30th).
“The divorce of Bayer 04 and sport manager Tim Steidten caused a stir in the industry in March,” Kicker reports – as transcribed by Hammers News.
“After all, the sports manager was one of the driving forces when it came to squad planning and scouting for new players at the Bundesliga club. A job he did in Leverkusen with above-average results in collaboration with the then head of scouting and squad planning Kim Falkenberg, who was recently promoted to head of recruitment at Bayer 04. In the conversations that led to the separation, Steidten explained “that I would like to start a new project”, one in which he could make more decisions himself.
“This will now be the case in London, where, according to kicker information, he will start his new job at West Ham United as the main director for football from July 1st.”
Schneider reiterated the claims and revealed West Ham will make the official announcement on Friday.
Hammers to announce first arrival of the summer and it could prove the most important too
“Tim Steidten becomes new Director of Football at West Ham,” Schneider said.
“He starts with the Hammers on July 1. (@kicker reported first). Official announcement will be made on Friday.”
Steidten’s eye for talent earned him the nickname “Pearl Diver” because he was instrumental in the transfers of previously unknown players who would go on to become stars.
Steidten becomes West Ham’s first arrival of the summer.
And given he will be in charge of transfers, recruitment and spending the Declan Rice money he may well prove to be the most important too.
Wilkommen Tim.
