Another one bites the dust as West Ham United are reportedly close to officially missing out on Viktor Gyokeres.
According to Record (print edition June 29th, page 8), Sporting are close to signing West Ham target Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry for just €20 million (£17.3 million).
However, that offer clearly didn’t materialise, and it seems as though Gyokeres will now be heading to Sporting.
Hammers boss David Moyes will have to look elsewhere for a new centre-forward it seems…
Another one bites the dust, West Ham reportedly close to officially missing out on Viktor Gyokeres
Portuguese outlet Record claim that the Coventry City hitman is on the verge of joining Sporting in a £17.3 million deal.
That really is a big blow for the Hammers – he’d have been a big upgrade on Michail Antonio in my opinion.
The Coventry ace is a willing runner, and is superb at stretching the opposition’s backline by making tireless runs into the channels – something that David Moyes obviously absolutely loves – just look at his dependance on Antonio.
The Swede is an incredibly hard worker and whilst he isn’t the quickest, he is an incredibly strong, intelligent footballer.
The Coventry forward is equally as strong with both feet and is very good at playing with his back to goal, holding up the ball and turning defenders. He has been labelled as a ‘lethal’ striker by TEAMtalk.
The 25-year-old bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances for the Sky Blues this season just gone (Transfermarkt).
Surely West Ham should have just coughed up the money for Viktor Gyokeres. £17.3 million represents excellent value for the striker.
It seems as though he’s set for a move to Sporting now, and Moyes will surely be kicking himself for not making a move to sign him sooner.
