Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign England midfielder Mason Mount, according to reports.
The Red Devils had a third bid worth £55million for Mount rejected by the Blues last week. Since then, negotiations have continued in a bid to meet a compromise on a fee.
The 24-year-old is out of contract next year so United did not want to overpay, especially given Mount’s stance that he will not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
After meeting in person, Chelsea and United have finally reached an agreement, as per David Ornstein.
Ornstein was the first of many to break the news. He wrote for The Athletic: ‘Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount in a deal worth up to £60million.’
After the third offer was rejected by Chelsea, there is an agreement in place for Erik ten Hag’s side to pay an initial £55m plus £5m in ‘difficult add-ons’.
OPINION: Man Utd are not serious people if they entertain Chelsea’s Mason Mount counter…
Mount will now undergo a medical after being given permission to do so, ‘with the clubs set to put the finishing touches to paperwork’.
This is a ‘positive conclusion’ for all parties as Chelsea did not want to lose Mount on a free in 2024, the player wanted to join United, and the Red Devils did not want to overpay.
The midfielder’s exit will put to an end an 18-year stay in west London. He made 195 appearances for the Blues, scoring 33 goals.
The news was also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, who was quick to chime in and say ‘here we go’.
Romano says personal terms were agreed ‘weeks ago’ and an ‘agreement is done’ after Ten Hag ‘refused to leave the race’.
The transfer expert says United ‘never entered the race’ for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, despite reports.
He also added that Mount will pen a five-year deal at Old Trafford and will have his medical tests after the weekend.
