Steidten will work with David Moyes as West Ham look to build on their European success
‘Building on the Club’s recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the Board, the Manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!’.
Moyes described Steidten as having a ‘strong track record’. He said: ‘On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family.
‘He has a strong track record in elite level football and we’re really looking forward to working with him.’
Joint-chairman David Sullivan says the appointment of Steidten is part of a plan to drive West Ham forward.
Sullivan said: ‘Our goal when we became custodians of West Ham United and moved to London Stadium was to bring silverware to this incredible Club and to regularly compete in European football.
‘We’ve enjoyed some fantastic times in recent seasons, and we aim to continue to grow and evolve across all areas of the Club.
‘Tim’s appointment is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward.
‘We are delighted to welcome such a well-respected name in the game to the Club.’
Steidten will also be working with sporting director and ex skipper Mark Noble at West Ham
At Leverkusen Steidten oversaw an influx of young talent including players such as Moussa Diaby, Jeremie Frimpong, Edmond Tapsoba, Odilon Kossounou and Piero Hincapie along with Xabi Alonso being hired as manager.
When he was at Werder Bremen Steidten brought in Kevin De Bruyne on loan from Chelsea and signed Serge Gnabry from Arsenal, Thomas Delaney from Copenhagen and Davy Klaassen from Everton.
Steidten left Leverkusen in March and was interviewed by Chelsea, while he was also monitored by Tottenham.
One of Steidten’s first tasks will be to try and replace Declan Rice, who is set to join Arsenal.
