Mason Mount has reportedly completed his move from Chelsea to Manchester United, after the two clubs haggled over his transfer fee for weeks.
The talented midfielder has repeatedly rejected contract offers from the Blues. As a result, they have been forced into selling him for £55m.
Now, it will be interesting to see how Mount fits into Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd squad next season.
During his time at Chelsea, the 24-year-old has made 195 appearances across all competitions, scoring 33 goals and making 37 assists.
In the process, he has helped the London club to Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup victory.
Also, Mount has secured a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. So, there is certainly no doubting his quality.
Mount has been linked with a move to Man Utd for a long time. Personal terms have never been an issue, but it wasn’t clear whether the Red Devils would reach an agreement over a transfer fee.
Indeed, Man Utd saw three bids rejected by Chelsea, who wanted £75m for Mount. But, they eventually managed to agree on a reduced offer of £55m.
Now, Mount has reportedly completed his medical, so he is set to sign for Man Utd.
This is according to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. On Twitter, he confirmed that Mount has now finalised his move to Old Trafford.
Therefore, Man Utd are expected to announce the midfielder’s arrival officially in the very near future.
As mentioned, what will be interesting is how Mount will slot into Man Utd’s midfield, which could look very different next season.
Indeed, Scott McTominay and Fred are both heavily linked with departures from the club.
Also, they rejected the chance to sign Marcel Sabitzer after his loan from Bayern Munich ended. So, it’s no surprise to see Ten Hag pushing to sign multiple midfield targets this summer.
For instance, recent reports suggest Fiorentina defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has ‘agreed terms’ with Man Utd.
The 26-year-old was superb for Morocco in the World Cup last year, which caught the attention of several top clubs. But, it seems the Red Devils are close to winning the race for his signature.
Amrabat is reportedly available for just £26m, too. So, he could potentially be one of the bargains of the summer.
With that in mind, a midfield consisting of Mount, Amrabat and Casemiro is certainly an exciting prospect for Man Utd fans.
While the links to Amrabat are still only rumours at this stage, Mount’s switch to Old Trafford is effectively done, with an official announcement expected very soon.
