PSG unveil £52m signing of Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon after seeing off interest from Chelsea and triggering release clause
PSG have signed Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP for £52million on a five-year deal.
The French champions fended off competition from Chelsea and triggered the 22-year-old’s release clause.
He is the third signing of the Luis Enrique era after Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar joined on free transfers yesterday.
The defensive midfielder joins at a whirlwind time for PSG, with Enrique’s appointment only confirmed a couple of days ago.
It all represents intriguing business for a club whose stated aim last year was to field a team purely composed of Parisian players.
Ugarte is Uraguayan, attacking midfielder Asensio is Spanish, and centre-back Skriniar is Slovakian. None have played for a French club before.
