Erik ten Hag was reportedly keen on bringing former Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger to Old Trafford this summer, and offered the German an ‘untouchable’ role and ‘a much higher salary’ to return to the Premier League.
Rudiger left Chelsea for Madrid on a free transfer last summer and made 53 appearances in his debut campaign for Los Blancos.
He was at times though left out of crucial games by Carlo Ancelotti, including the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City despite expertly shutting down Erling Haaland in the first leg.
Perhaps as a result of his inconsistent game time, Nacional claim Manchester United went ‘fishing’ at Madrid again having signed Raphael Varane and Casemiro in the last two years.
Its claimed they ‘hoped to convince Rudiger to change airs’ because he was not ‘an undisputed starter’ at Madrid.
Rudiger is ‘completely liked’ by Ten Hag who would ‘guarantee him to be untouchable’ at Man Utd alongside Lisandro Martinez, presumably therefore at the expense of Varane.
United ‘planned to offer €60m to convince Florentino Perez to open the doors for him’ and it’s claimed Rudiger was tempted by ‘a much higher salary’ along with assurances over a starting spot.
But that plan was academic according to the report, which insists ‘Perez has never considered considered Rudiger’s departure.
Man Utd are looking for alternatives and Monaco’s axel Disasi is thought to be near the top of Ten Hag’s shortlist.
French newspaper L’Equipe claim that the Red Devils ‘still lead the pack’ for the Frenchman.
It has been claimed that there are ‘other big European teams’ that are ‘trying to convince’ Disasi – who has four caps for the France senior side – but he is currently set on a move to Old Trafford.
Monaco has ‘anticipated transfers’ for Disasi and team-mate Youssouf Fofana with the Ligue 1 club hoping to raise €70-80m in an effort to ‘alleviate the finances of the club’.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed Ten Hag has ‘approved’ the signing of Disasi, but Newcastle are also in the running for the 25-year-old.
On Twitter, he wrote: “Newcastle and Manchester United are both exploring Disasi deal, no bids yet.
“Newcastle approached player side this week, expected to make contact with Monaco.
“Ten Hag approved Disasi — talks for weeks on player side but still waiting for approach with Monaco.”
