It’s no surprise that David Moyes might want to sign the Italy international – the Hammers boss needs to strengthen his central defensive ranks having allowed Craig Dawson to join Wolves in January.
And it seems as though West Ham are now closing in on a deal to sign the Real Betis star…
Luiz Felipe could now be West Ham bound but his injury record makes for truly grim reading
Mundo Deportivo reckon that the Hammers could wrap up a deal to sign the Real Betis centre-back as early as later this week.
On paper, the Italy international would be a strong addition for West Ham.
In 23 La Liga outings for Betis last season, Felipe averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 4.3 clearances and 1.3 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).
During those appearances, he has made 38.1 passes on average per match and has recorded an impressive completion rate of 85.5% (Who Scored).
Luiz Felipe is strong in the tackle and in the air, and possesses all of the attributes needed to succeed with West Ham in the Premier League.
Word of warning though…he is extremely injury prone. Luiz Felipe has missed 49 games through injury since 2018 (Transfermarkt).
So one would imagine that a move to the more robust and physical Premier League could prove to be problematic for him.
If West Ham sign Luiz Felipe for £17 million, I actually think it could be a good deal for us. However, his record with injury problems should undoubtedly be a red flag for Moyes.
