Academy kid Kodua impresses
A comfortable win for the Irons last night saw an absolute cracker of a goal from the previously rarely heard of Gideon Kodua.
For a ring-rusty, first friendly of the season it was quite an impressive showing.
Young Kodua only came on for the last 10 minutes and certainly made his mark.
The 18 year old forward racked up 14 goals and seven assists in 29 games for the Hammers under-18s last season (Transfermarkt). He has a physical presence and is blessed with pace as well.
He has been an Academy player since 2017 after being picked up after playing for the Newham District .
Inevitably , he has been somewhat under the radar recently , as all eyes have been on the equally promising Divin Mubama .
If this is a foretaste of the talent coming through the Academy, we are in a very good place !
The perennial problem being, is getting sufficient game time and also whether they can make the step up to the hurly burly of the Premier League., Mubama certainly has shown that he definitely can.
It is likely that Kodua, unless he makes the fringes of the first team, will be packed off on loan to the lower leagues somewhere to keep learning his trade.
