West Ham’s Scamacca: “Mourinho would motivate me”
Gianluca Scamacca could hardly have made the position on his future much clearer with recent comments on his thoughts about Jose Mourinho.
There have been huge doubts about his Hammers position since changing agents and suffering a reported quickly sorted injury but which kept him out of action for the last part of the 22/23 season.
The Hammers had told CandH through an insider that the change of agents presented doubts about what came next and for the first time in an interview with Gazzetta.
And his words present particularly worrying words for us which seem to suggest we may need two strikers this summer with Mikey Antonio also reportedly unsettled.
There were hopes that Scamacca was sorted given he appeared in the first pre-season match against Boreham Wood but that looks to have been dashed.
He told Gazetta: “Rome is home to me. Francesco Totti has been my idol since I was a kid and which player wouldn’t dream of being coached by Mourinho?
“I am convinced he would motivate me and I would improve even more.”
So, is Roma his favourite destination if he returns to Serie A?
“I’ve always made decisions with my heart and will continue to do so,” said the striker.
“You know the colours of my heart, but right now I am a West Ham player and happy here.”
Hmm! We will see!
The interview was published in Wednesday’s printed edition of the pink paper.
Scamacca sems headed back home having added that he spoke about a possible move to the club with his friend and Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini.
