Liverpool and Chelsea are both ‘in talks’ with Benjamin Pavard’s representatives as they look to steal a march on Manchester City.
The France international has entered the final 12 months of his current Bayern Munich contract and there are no signs of him signing a fresh deal at the Allianz Arena.
Reports have therefore suggested the Bundesliga giants are willing to sell Pavard and will look to recoup the €35m they paid Stuttgart for his services in the summer of 2019.
Pep Guardiola is thought to be keen on the 27-year-old as a replacement for Kyle Walker, who’s reportedly given the green light for Bayern to sign him this summer.
Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that Man City and Bayern ‘will discuss’ Pavard in the near future.
He tweeted: “Manchester City have now Benjamin Pavard on top of their list as a new right back.
“Pavard is Man City’s priority in case Kyle Walker will join Bayern, deal advanced on the player side but not completed yet.
“Bayern and City will discuss Walker and Pavard.”
But Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk claims both Liverpool and Chelsea are vying with City to sign the World Cup winner.
Falk told GIVEMESPORT: “Yeah, of course. He’s an interesting player for the Premier League. Chelsea are always in talks with his management; Liverpool are in talks with his management, Barcelona as well, but Barcelona don’t have the money at the moment. They would like to have him as a free agent next summer.”
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel will be reticent to see Pavard leave the club having heaped praise on the defender earlier this year, describing him as a “top team player”.
“He is an underrated player“, Tuchel said.
“He can adapt to the highest level and he defends rigorously. He is a top team player, he immediately had my confidence and proved to me that I had been right.”
But given Pavard has just a year left to run the German boss has likely been told by the Bayern bosses that they will accept a bid for him this summer rather than losing him for nothing in 2024.
