Hammer Antonio looks set for Saudi Arabia
Michail Antonio is understood to be involved in talks to make a move the the “mega money” Saudi Arabian League which is attracting a number of top players from the UK.
According to a tweet from Al-Ettifaq – Steven Gerrard’s new club – the 33 year old Hammer is believed to be in advanced negotiations with the club.
Speculation that the long term Iron could make a move as he enters to autumn/winter of his career has been rife for weeks.
He was regularly linked with a move to Wolves in the winter window when he seemed unhappy to be playing second fiddle to new striker Gianluca Scamacca.
Now however it seems that he could be on the move a year ahead of his current contract running out in June of next year.
And although he has a year’s option attached to it, the Hammers are likely to let him move on given that they will receive a bigger fee from the Saudis than they could expect domestically.
It puts perspective on our earlier story of the club not looking to sign Harvey Barnes, not seeing him as a priority given Antonio’s position and the possibility of Scamacca moving on.
Asked whether the story was indeed true Claret and Hugh’s key source explained: “Not with us” which is something of a giveaway.
