Sky Bet has launched its 2023/24 Fan Hope Survey, quizzing Premier League supporters on their hopes, views, and expectations ahead of the new season – with Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium rated as having the best atmosphere in the league.
Named as the loudest ground by over a quarter of the Premier League fans (27%), Anfield pips St James’ Park (16%) to the top spot, with Newcastle boasting the second-best atmosphere in the league.
One in 10 supporters credit the crowd at Old Trafford, ranking Manchester United in the top three for volume.
Top three best Premier League atmospheres, according to Premier League fans:
Rank | Team | Stadium | Percentage |
1 | Liverpool | Anfield | 27% |
2 | Newcastle United | St James’ Park | 16% |
3 | Manchester United | Old Trafford | 10% |
The Sky Bet survey also asked fans to identify the grounds with the worst atmospheres, finding the London Stadium to have the poorest vibe in the division, with 13% of the vote going to West Ham.
Newly promoted Luton Town won’t be getting any Premier League survival help from a ‘twelfth man’, according to supporters, as one in 10 picked Kenilworth Road as being home to the worst fans.
And, despite mounting an impressive title challenge last time out, Arsenal can’t shake the tag of the Emirates Stadium being labelled a “library” – 8% say the Emirates has the worst atmosphere in the division, putting the Gunners in the relegation zone for fan support.
Top three worst Premier League atmospheres, according to Premier League fans:
Rank | Team | Stadium | Percentage |
1 | West Ham United | London Stadium | 13% |
2 | Luton Town | Kenilworth Road | 10% |
3 | Arsenal | Emirates Stadium | 8% |
While fans tend to back their own club, it seems that Aston Villa followers are far harsher on themselves. Villa Park was selected as home to the worst support by 8% of Villains, making them the most self-deprecating side.
A Sky Bet spokesperson said: “Fans are the heart and soul of football, and their passion and support of the team is a huge factor for players. Tales of a European night under the lights at Anfield are very common, but fans’ domestic performances are also appreciated by other fanbases too.
“So, if you’re easily intimidated, it’s best to avoid Liverpool on a Saturday, and instead head to the placid London Stadium for quiet day at the footie – or Villa Park, according to Aston Villa fans!”
