A board confidant has lifted the lid on the fee Man United have told West Ham they’ll accept for star Scott McTominay amid a ‘gap in valuation’.
West Ham’s painfully slow summer transfer window has suddenly burst into life in the last 48 hours and offers have reportedly been made for six players.
One of those players is Manchester United star Scott McTominay as David Moyes looks to bring in two midfielders to replace Declan Rice.
According to Sky Sports West Ham have held initial talks with Man United over the signing McTominay and Harry Maguire.
Board confidant lifts lid on fee Man United have told West Ham they’ll accept for star Scott McTominay amid ‘gap in valuation’
“Early suggestions indicate a gap in valuations for both players and Sky Sports News has been told United see Maguire and McTominay as top players and very important members of the squad,” the report states.
“While they are not encouraging offers, it’s thought it would require very big bids for United to even consider a sale.”

That has left West Ham fans – and indeed Man United supporters too – wondering what kind of figure the Hammers would have to get to for McTominay.
Now they have an answer.
Because a board confidant has lifted the lid on the fee Man United have told West Ham they’ll accept for star McTominay amid a ‘gap in valuation’.
‘Undisclosed bid made for McTominay but Man United want…’
Sean Whetstone, who has contacts on the West Ham board including Karren Brady and David Sullivan, has confirmed bids have been made for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and McTominay.
And Whetstone has revealed the price Manchester United have told his West Ham source they want for Scotland international McTominay.
“Two more bids in. One for Conor Gallagher around £42m plus up to £5m of add-ons,” Whetstone said.
“Confusion over status of that bid and whether it has been rejected with different sides briefing different things.
“Another undisclosed bid made for Scott McTominay but Manchester United want £45m.”
That fee of £45m may raise eyebrows. But West Ham are victims of their own success in many ways with this situation.
Getting a British record £105m for Rice was excellent business. But it has inflated the market for British midfielders to ridiculous levels.
Man United are entitled to ask for whatever they want for McTominay. And like Arsenal with Rice, if he is a player West Ham want they will have to meet the asking price or move on.
That’s why looking abroad for Rice’s replacement, as new technical director Tim Steidten has been doing, represents much better value for the Hammers.
