Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg valued at €42 million by Tottenham Hotspur amidst Atletico Madrid interest
Tottenham Hotspur have set a €42 million price tag on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg amidst interest from Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
Los Rojiblancos were keen to sign Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain. However, the Italy international has reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal in the ongoing transfer window.
To that end, the La Liga outfit have a few alternative targets in their sights. Among them, the North London side’s Danish national is on their radar. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat are also being eyed by Diego Simeone’s team.
However, Atletico have no intention of matching Tottenham’s valuation for Hojbjerg as things stand. The Spanish giants need to part ways with some of their stars first in order to incorporate the 27-year-old into their ranks.
Spurs signed the Danish national in the summer of 2020 from Southampton. The midfielder has been a pivotal part of the Lilywhites’ first-team setup over the last few years.
In the previous campaign, Hojbjerg was one of the few standout players at Tottenham. The 27-year-old made 44 appearances in all competitions for the North London side, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
The Danish national is one of the leaders in Spurs’ ranks. Also, the midfielder possesses immense Premier League experience. Therefore, it is understandable that the Lilywhites want a considerable fee for him.
At the moment, Yves Bissouam, Tanguy Ndombele, Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp and Giovani Lo Celso are in Tottenham’s ranks. However, in case of any departures, we will evidently need to add reinforcements to our ranks.

It remains to be seen whether Atletico will match the price tag set on Hojbjerg or if Spurs will be willing to lower their demands in the coming weeks.
